    Workers meeting to improve and streamline a process Transformation Initiative cuts red tape, saves money
    Cutting red tape to deliver better, faster services to Oregonians at less cost has never been more important. Record-breaking numbers of Oregonians are turning to the state for help in weathering the economic recession.

    State government is struggling to meet the demand with dwindling resources. The Oregon Department of Human Services (DHS) and Oregon Health Authority (OHA) are leading the reinvention of government through its Transformation Initiative, proving that public agencies can change during tough times in ways that truly matter to the people of our state. By making processes more efficient and effective, the Transformation Initiative has delivered $106.5 million in savings so far, and marked improvements in customer service and quality.

Bright Idea recognition

Transformation was named a creative and promising government program by the Bright Ideas initiative. The initiative is part of the Innovations in Government program, a program of the Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation at Harvard Kennedy School.
Lean in government
Lean is the primary tool DHS and OHA uses to "do the right work, the right way." Lean provides a set of common tools and a system of thinking focused on identifying and removing waste in processes to provide more effective and efficient services to clients.
