Correctional Officer Buddy Herron's Funeral Service

Staff at the Oregon Department of Corrections (DOC) are mourning the tragic loss of Buddy Herron, a Correctional Officer at Eastern Oregon Correctional Institution. Herron was senselessly killed Monday night on his way to work when he stopped to help a motorist who he thought was stranded by the side of the road.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, December 5, 2011 at the Vert Auditorium, on the corner of 4th Street and SW Dorian, Pendleton, Oregon.

Members of the media who wish to attend the service, please contact Jennifer Black or Kristi Brandt with the DOC. The Herron family requests privacy while they grieve their sudden loss. The service will be open to the public, but the gravesite burial will be for Buddy's family and close friends only. When they become available, additional details will be posted on DOC's website at www.oregon.gov/DOC/.

AFSCME Local 3361 has set-up a donations account through U.S. Bank. The fund name is the Buddy Herron/AFSCME Local 3361 Donations Fund. All of the money will go to his family in their time of need.

Herron was married and the father of four children. In addition to his work at EOCI, he was a volunteer firefighter and a charter member of a rural neighborhood watch.
