Eastern Oregon Correctional Institution Remains on Lockdown

 Incidents Necessitate Lockdown at EOCI
At approximately 1:05pm on Wednesday, April 20, 2011, an altercation between inmates broke out in the West Dining Room at Eastern Oregon Correctional Institution (EOCI). Staff immediately responded and stopped the fights. Seventeen inmates were assigned to the Disciplinary Segregation Unit (DSU). Several inmates suffered minor injuries. No staff injuries were reported. 
EOCI was placed on modified lockdown status at approximately 1:07pm. Visiting room operations continued to run normally.
At approximately 5:57pm, a series of fights erupted in the East Dining Hall.  Staff immediately intervened to stop the fights. Eight inmates were assigned to DSU.  Several inmates received minor injuries. No staff injuries were reported. 
EOCI was placed on lockdown status at approximately 6:00pm. Additional altercations occurred throughout the evening on both the eastside and westside housing units.  A total of 47 inmates have been placed in DSU.
The facility is still on lockdown status necessitating the cancellation of the visiting room operations.  Education classes, programs, jobs and recreation yard activities have also been cancelled. 
Inmate visitors are encouraged to call the facility before traveling distances to ensure that visiting has been resumed.
