OREGON DOC AND WASHINGTON DOC MEET TO DISCUSS MANAGING INMATE BEHAVIOR

Representatives from the Washington Department of Corrections recently met with representatives from the Oregon Department of Corrections in a first of a series of meetings to share information about respective prison operations. Staff from both states met at Coffee Creek Correctional Facility in Wilsonville on June 27 to discuss management techniques for the most difficult offenders.

"The idea is to collaborate and learn from each other," said Colette S. Peters, Director of Oregon DOC. "Too often we work on identical issues and don't pool our resources across state lines. We hope this is the first of many activities."

The next meeting of the departments has not yet been scheduled.

Oregon DOC employs 4,300 staff members at 14 institutions and several centralized support facilities throughout the state. It houses more than 14,000 offenders who have been convicted of felony crimes and sentenced to more than 12 months of incarceration.
