Criteria for Program Completion Completion of 15 required courses offered over a 12 month period. Students may choose to test in any four of the eight ASE certification areas. Some advanced classes are offered to production workers on as need basis. Students who complete the one-year program earn an Award of Completion in General Automotive.

Description of Program: The program is a post-secondary course comprised of 15 courses that include both lecture and hands-on skills development. Graduates of the twelve-month basic mechanic program are encouraged to continue training by working in the production for experience phase. Production is offered in engine repair and overhaul, transmissions (automatic and manual ), and transaxles (automatic and manual ).

Graduates of this program can demonstrate competencies in all aspects of:
- Appropriate types and proper use of tools.
- Theory and operation of simple and complex automotive machines including construction, principles, and service of gasoline combustion engine.
- Safety guidelines and related rules, regulations, and methods in the automotive industry.
- Theory, principle, service, and repair of all automotive systems.
- Understanding basic business practices.
- Effective organizational, communication, interpersonal, and time management skills.
- Ability to work in a team.
- Self esteem, motivation, and goal setting.
- Creative, critical thinking, decision-making, and problem solving skills.
- Technical reading, writing, and math skills.
- Career commitment and work ethic.
