Media Advisory News Release
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Tuesday, October 12, 1999

Reports that a second inmate escaped from Eastern Oregon Correctional Institution in Pendleton are wrong!!!

A county jail inmate escaped from the custody of Umatilla County on Friday, October 8 while at the hospital in Pendleton. This escape is totally unrelated to the October 2 prison escape of James Kinney, who still remains at large.

In Oregon, counties manage the jails and they have custody of misdemeanants and felons sentenced to less than a year. The Department of Corrections manages the state prisons; we hold felons sentenced to more than a year´s incarceration.

Please make the appropriate corrections and check the wire for the accurate information.

Thank you.
