| Inmate Dies at Penitentiary |

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 25, 2000
A 39-year old state prison inmate died late last night at Oregon State Penitentiary of an apparent suicide.
Dean Scott Thurman was found hanging in his single cell at approximately 10:00 p.m. Sunday during a routine tier check. Efforts by correctional staff and paramedics to resuscitate him were futile.
Inmate Thurman was serving time from Marion County for three counts of Sex Abuse I. He was admitted to prison on August 5, 1999 and was not eligible for release until August 2014.
The incident is being investigated by the Oregon State Police. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
