INMATE IN CUSTODY
 
(Salem) - An inmate who walked away yesterday morning from a minimum-custody crew working on the grounds outside of Oregon State Penitentiary in Salem was taken into custody this morning in the Salem area.
 
The inmate, Eduardo Vaca-Garcia, 20, was last seen May 2nd 7:05 a.m. heading west on State Street.
 
Information was received by the Department of Corrections Fugitive Apprehension Unit and forwarded to Oregon State Police. Surveillance was established by the Fugitive Apprehension Unit at a Salem area motel off Interstate 5. Upon arrival of State Police, Vaca-Garcia was taken into custody about 7:30 a.m. He was lodged in the Marion County Jail for Escape Second Degree pending his return to the custody of the Department of Corrections.
 
Also taken into custody was his girlfriend, YESSENIA A. GONZALEZ, age 20, from Salem, for Hindering Prosecution and Obstructing Governmental Administration. She was in the motel room at the time of his arrest.
 
Vaca-Garcia was admitted to prison on February 10, 2005 and was due to be released in August 2006. He is serving a sentence for Burglary I from Marion County.
