Ackley Receives State's Highest Corrections Award
 
 
The Oregon Department of Corrections honored outstanding employees at its annual awards ceremony in Salem last week. Receiving the department's highest honor, the Amos Reed Award, was Richard Ackley of Salem. Ackley is security manager of Columbia River Correctional Institution in Portland.
 
The Amos Reed Award is presented to an individual is presented to an employee who has served exceptionally well in his or her regular work assignment, and who has displayed outstanding leadership qualities in areas of mentorship, team building, and personal and professional integrity.
The Amos Reed Award was presented by Corrections Director Max Williams and Deputy Director Mitch Morrow. Director Williams cited Ackley for his ability to, "…look at challenges with the whole picture in mind.
 
"He exemplifies the standards for which the department's credibility and reputation rely," Director Williams said. "He serves as a role model through his attitude and discipline…"
In commending the work of all of the Department of Corrections' 2006 statewide award recipients, Director Williams said, "We are here to honor the truly outstanding work done by the staff, contractors and volunteers of the Oregon Department of Corrections, some of the best in Oregon state government.
 
"By working together as individuals and as an agency, we are moving forward with initiatives and projects that help us to better accomplish our mission – to promote public safety by holding offenders accountable for their actions and reducing the risk of future criminal behavior."
