EOCI Committee Receives Statewide Corrections Directors' Award

The Oregon Department of Corrections honored outstanding employees at its annual awards ceremony in Salem last week. Among those recognized were members of the EOCI Action Committee in Pendleton. Sgt. Ken Hegge, Inmate Work Coordinator Bill Jewell, and Information Services Technical Support Analyst John Taylor were selected by Corrections Director Max Williams and Deputy Director Mitch Morrow to receive Directors' Awards.

In presenting the award, Deputy Director Morrow said, “The EOCI Action Committee was formed in 2005 to track deliveries and expenditures of the Receiving and Discharge Office. Since then they have moved forward to develop and implement a number of different projects to streamline and improve operations at EOCI.

“The committee’s stated goals include: achieving greater operational and budget savings at EOCI, increasing staff awareness of and participation in line-level budget control, and increasing employee job satisfaction, morale, safety and teamwork,” Mr. Morrow explained. “Working together, they have exemplified loyalty and commitment, not only to EOCI, but also to the Department as a whole.”

In commending the work of all statewide award recipients, Corrections Director Max Williams said, "We are here to honor the truly outstanding work done by the staff, contractors and volunteers of the Oregon Department of Corrections, some of the best in Oregon state government.

"By working together as individuals and as an agency, we are moving forward with initiatives and projects that help us to better accomplish our mission – to promote public safety by holding offenders accountable for their actions and reducing the risk of future criminal behavior."
