Morton Receives Statewide Corrections Directors' Award
The Oregon Department of Corrections honored outstanding employees at its annual awards ceremony in Salem last week. Among those recognized was Greg Morton, administrator of the Professional Development Unit in Salem. Morton was selected by Corrections Director Max Williams and Deputy Director Mitch Morrow to receive a Directors' Award.
Morton was recognized for his outstanding commitment to public safety and the Oregon Department of Corrections. In presenting the award, Deputy Director Morrow said, “Greg has been an excellent role model for creativity and innovation in his work heading the Professional Development Unit. Greg led the way in developing new programs and relationships on behalf of the agency including the Director’s Academy, redesigning and implementing the new DOC in-service model, and strengthening our working partnership with the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training.
“Greg has embraced change, better aligning his unit with the DOC Strategic Plan,” Morrow explained. “In doing so, he has displayed outstanding leadership in mentoring, teambuilding, and personal and professional integrity.”
In commending the work of all statewide award recipients, Corrections Director Max Williams said, "We are here to honor the truly outstanding work done by the staff, contractors and volunteers of the Oregon Department of Corrections, some of the best in Oregon state government.
"By working together as individuals and as an agency, we are moving forward with initiatives and projects that help us to better accomplish our mission – to promote public safety by holding offenders accountable for their actions and reducing the risk of future criminal behavior."
