Raney Receives Statewide Corrections Directors' Award

The Oregon Department of Corrections honored outstanding employees at its annual awards ceremony in Salem last week. Among those recognized was Gina Raney of the Offender Information and Sentence Computation Unit in Wilsonville. Raney was selected by Corrections Director Max Williams and Deputy Director Mitch Morrow to receive a Directors' Award.

In presenting the award, Deputy Director Morrow said, “As an agency, we are charged with carrying out the sentences of the courts. However, determining an inmate’s release date more complex than most people would ever imagine, with little margin for error.

“As policy and legal analyst Gina provides oversight for all sentence calculation policy issues for DOC. She reviews individual situations and cases and determines how to proceed based on legal advice, analyzing the intricacies of a particular case to determine how it all ties together,” Mr. Morrow explained. “Gina works closely with our statewide partners in the criminal justice system, including the attorney general, jail commanders and others to ensure that sentence calculation issues are discussed and resolved. Her attention to detail and strong work ethic have earned the respect of both our partners and her peers.”

In commending the work of all statewide award recipients, Corrections Director Max Williams said, "We are here to honor the truly outstanding work done by the staff, contractors and volunteers of the Oregon Department of Corrections, some of the best in Oregon state government.

"By working together as individuals and as an agency, we are moving forward with initiatives and projects that help us to better accomplish our mission – to promote public safety by holding offenders accountable for their actions and reducing the risk of future criminal behavior."
