Wilson, Metzger Receive Statewide Corrections Awards

The Oregon Department of Corrections honored outstanding employees at its annual awards ceremony in Salem last week. Among those recognized was L. Megan Wilson and Robert Metzger of Snake River Correctional Institution in Ontario.

Wilson was selected as the Oregon Corrections Enterprises' 2006 Employee of the Year, and Metzger received the 2006 Outstanding Service Award. Both recipients were recognized for their outstanding commitment to public safety and the Oregon Department of Corrections.

In presenting Wilson's award, Oregon Corrections Enterprises Administrator Rob Killgore said, "Megan's organizational commitment is evident in her team approach and willingness to help others. She ensures deadlines are met and that customers are satisfied with our work – important tasks for any business, but particularly for businesses operating inside a prison.

"Megan is an independent thinker and possesses tough decision-making skills. Her commitment to high ethical standards is displayed by her professional demeanor and role modeling."

Robert Metzger
Metzger's award was presented by the Department of Corrections Assistant Director for General Services John Koreski, who told the audience, "Bob is the Information Services Unit's Inmate Systems administrator. He has worked closely with the department's inmate legal library system, and his work is integral to the running of 21 inmate law libraries and ten classrooms statewide.
"Bob's effective interactions and communications have been essential to DOC's conversion from traditional book-based inmate law libraries to the secure electronic libraries we have today."
In commending the work of the statewide award recipients, Corrections Director Max Williams said, "We are here to honor the truly outstanding work done by the staff, contractors and volunteers of the Oregon Department of Corrections, some of the best in Oregon state government.

"By working together as individuals and as an agency, we are moving forward with initiatives and projects that help us to better accomplish our mission – to promote public safety by holding offenders accountable for their actions and reducing the risk of future criminal behavior."
