DOC Inmate Walks Away

An inmate walked away this morning from a minimum-custody crew working on the grounds outside of Oregon State Penitentiary in Salem. The inmate, Dominic Smith, 28, was discovered missing from his work crew at approximately 9:15 a.m.

Smith is described as African American male, 6' tall, weighing 170 pounds, with short black hair, facial hair, and brown eyes. He has a tribal design tattoo on his left forearm. He was last seen wearing a navy blue t-shirt and Prison Blues denim jeans.

Smith was admitted to prison on September 25, 2007 and was due to be released in October 2008. He is serving a sentence for Robbery III from Marion County. The Oregon Department of Corrections Fugitive Apprehension Unit, the Oregon State Police, and local law enforcement agencies are investigating. As with all fugitives, Smith should be considered dangerous and not be approached. Anyone with information about Smith's whereabouts is urged to contact the non-emergency number of their local law enforcement agency or the Oregon Department of Corrections Fugitive Apprehension Unit at 503-945-0975.
