Inmates back in custody after escape from Lakeview prison
Both of the minimum-custody inmates who escaped Saturday, Sept. 6 from Warner Creek Correctional Facility in Lakeview have been recaptured.
Joseph Swift, 25, dob 11/19/1982, was serving 127 months for robbery from Multnomah County. Swift was recaptured and brought back to Warner Creek Correctional Facility (WCCF) around 4 a.m. Sunday.
Christopher Sherrod, 31, dob 8/19/1977, was serving 70 months for kidnapping from Linn County. Sherrod was taken into custody by Jackson County's Sheriff's office with aid from Lake County Sheriff's deputies and a canine unit from Klamath Falls around 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7. Sherrod was observed in a field about 20 miles from the prison by a local rancher who notified local law enforcement.
As a minimum security prison, Warner Creek Correctional Facility houses minimum-custody inmates with less than four years remaining on their sentences. It has a single perimeter fence topped with concertina wire.
The method of escape is under investigation. The two inmates were discovered missing about 9:30 p.m. Saturday.
The Oregon Department of Corrections Fugitive Apprehension Unit and the Oregon State Police are investigating. Anyone with information regarding their escape should contact the Oregon State Police Southern Command Center dispatch at 541-776-6111, the non-emergency number of their local police department, or the Oregon Department of Corrections Fugitive Apprehension Unit at 503-945-0975.
The current population is 336 at Warner Creek, and 13,973 statewide.
