Kitchen Fire at Oregon State Penitentiary

KITCHEN FIRE AT OREGON STATE PENITENTIARY
 
At approximately 3:05 a.m. a Food Services Coordinator detected a fire in an industrial oven in the kitchen of the Oregon State Penitentiary. The fire was immediately reported and additional Penitentiary staff responded extinguishing the fire. No injuries were reported. The Fire Department was contacted and provided assistance. The fire is currently under investigation by the State Fire Marshal.
 
There were no inmates in the immediate area when the fire broke out. The Penitentiary's kitchen serves an average of 6,200 meals a day. The fire temporarily delayed the morning meal. The institution resumed normal operations by 4:45 a.m.
 
The Penitentiary was built in 1866 and currently houses approximately 2,100 inmates.
