| Inmate Commits Suicide at Snake River Correctional Institution |

At approximately 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 7, 2009, inmate Richard Cantu was found dead in his cell at Snake River Correctional Institution in Ontario.
Prison security and medical staff attempted to resuscitate the inmate, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
Inmate Cantu, 41, was serving a sentence for two counts of Rape 1, one count of Sexual Penetration 1, four counts of Sexual Abuse 1, one count of Assault 1, one count of Kidnapping 1, two counts of Escape II and two counts of Sodomy 1 from Washington County. He was admitted to DOC custody on March 31, 2000 and had a projected release date in July of 2042.
As with all deaths of state inmates, Oregon State Police are investigating.
