Powder River Correctional Facility
On Tuesday, Nov. 17, Powder River Correctional Facility (PRCF) will celebrate its 20th Anniversary. PRCF, which opened in Baker City Nov. 15, 1989, was the first correctional facility to be built in Oregon since 1959, and was part of the largest prison expansion program in the state at the time.

The 278-bed facility is home to the New Directions Northwest Alternative Incarceration Alcohol and Drug Program, the largest therapeutic treatment facility of its kind in the state. The program includes intensive, residential alcohol and drug treatment using the most current, evidence-based, treatment curriculum available in the United States. Three treatment units are operating within the facility. Two of the units are full-time treatment while the third serves as a treatment readiness unit for the inmates preparing to get into the program. The treatment program at PRCF is designed to assist individuals to lead successful, pro-social lives as productive, tax-paying citizens upon return to their community.

A number of Oregon Department of Corrections officials, community representatives, members of the Prison Advisory Committee and other special guests are expected to attend.
