Through a Child's Eyes, Coffee Creek Correctional Facility Success Story
TACE event brings together inmate mothers and children
Incarcerated mothers share special moments with children
July 11 & 12 was a special event for some female inmate parents at the Coffee Creek Correctional Facility (CCCF) and their children. “Through a Child’s Eyes” (TACE) brought together 600 people -- moms, kids and members of the community -- for two days of activities, including food, crafts and games. Sponsored by the Wilsonville Rotary Club, Department of Corrections (DOC) staff volunteers and members of the CCCF Prison Advisory Committee worked with the Rotarians to make the event a success. The TACE event was open to minimum and medium custody inmates who had six months without misconduct reports and who had completed parenting education or who are enrolled in the classes.

The event brought incarcerated mothers and their children together in a setting that enabled them to interact in a more relaxed and friendly environment. As a result, mothers learned more about their children in three hours than they would in the typical visiting sessions. Some of the mothers saw their children for the first time in years.

Each year CCCF, in partnership with the local Wilsonville Rotary Club, hold its annual TACE event. This is a special family visitation day for female inmates and their children to spend the afternoon in a setting promoting family bonding and interaction. These families share a BBQ meal and participate in a variety of outdoor activities that promote pro-social behaviors and utilize the parenting skills that they have learned during their incarceration.

Supervision for this event is provided by a variety of CCCF staff, community volunteers and other departmental staff who have graciously volunteered their time.
