GENERAL INFORMATION
These part-time and full-time executive service positions are with the Oregon Department of Corrections in Salem, Portland, Pendleton, Ontario, Umatilla, Madras and Wilsonville.This position may be eligible for Police & Fire (P&F) benefits through Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), as defined by statute.
A full time position is available with the Department of Corrections in Ontario.

TO QUALIFY
You must possess, or have the ability to obtain:
- a Physician's license issued by the Oregon Board of Medical Examiners at the time of appointment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Correction's Physician Specialist directs the Health Services program at an institution to provide care and treatment to inmates during incarceration. Major duties:
- performs health evaluations of inmates, including review of medical information obtained by other healthcare providers; reviews and/or completes the history of an inmate's previous medical, psychiatric, dental treatment and immunizations; reviews results of lab and other diagnostic tests; physically examines inmates for presence of pathology; establishes diagnoses for medical problems; prescribes treatment and a follow-up plan for abnormal conditions; documents pertinent normal and abnormal findings in the medical record;
- prescribes treatment for inmate's medical conditions on the physician's order form, including further diagnostic procedures, monitoring vital signs, pharmacotherapeutic agents, admission to and release from healthcare facilities (infirmary, hospital, emergency room), curative or palliative interventions (surgery, prosthetic devices, special diets, etc.) and initiates referrals to other physician specialists;
- documents results of physical examinations, diagnoses and treatments in the individual inmate's medical record using the SOAP charting format; assures the maintenance of medical confidentiality and complies with Department and other statutory requirements concerning release of medical information;
- obtains written informed consent, according to Department rule, from inmates prior to administration of any medically diagnostic or treatment procedure which poses a material risk of substantial pain or harm to the inmate; provides information and consultation to inmates and their designated families, as requested, about medical findings and prescribed treatments;
- provides medical information to Department employees, other healthcare providers, as necessary, to assure continuity of prescribed treatment and programmatic function of the inmate and to maintain the safety and security of the institution; participates with other members of the healthcare team in the development of individualized treatment plans for inmates requiring special medical supervision;
- makes clinical rounds of the infirmary and hospital, provides on-call medical coverage as part of the physician on-call procedure; performs emergency medical interventions; assists in the preparation of staff and equipment for emergency medical response; maintains certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation procedures; and
- performs work according to guidelines and procedures for maintenance of a secure environment in the correctional setting; represents the Department in court as determined necessary by the Attorney General's office concerning healthcare delivery; supports Institution and Department Affirmative Action goals; assumes responsibility for professional growth and continued education.
WORKING CONDITIONS

- must be able to acknowledge that everyone is capable of positive change;
- works in close contact with inmates in an institutional setting;
- may be exposed to chemicals, radiation, communicable disease, or other hazards inherent in a health care facility and correctional setting; and
- is responsible for the provision of 24 hour on-call physician back-up to the institution in coordination with other Department physicians and medical decisions that affect institution security.
You must have a valid driver's license and good driving record or an acceptable alternate means of transportation.
