GENERAL INFORMATION
These positions are with the Department of Corrections' Operations Division. There is one current vacancy at Snake River Correctional Institution in Ontario. This announcement will be used to establish a current list of qualified candidates. If you are hired, you will become part of the Department's management team. Due to budgetary shortfalls, the person appointed to this position may be required to take unpaid furlough days between September 1, 2009 and June 30, 2011.

TO QUALIFY
Your PD100 application form will be reviewed to verify that you meet the qualifications stated in this section. To receive credit, your application form must clearly show that you:
- have three years of nursing experience including some supervisory and/or teaching experience which shows knowledge of: a) nursing techniques and therapeutic intervention used in the care and treatment of patients; b) supervisory techniques and work management of subordinate personnel; AND c) administrative and educational principals and practices involved in nursing administration; AND
You must also possess a valid Oregon Registered Professional Nurse License at the time of appointment.
In the "Work History" section on your application you must clearly describe your experience in each of the a), b), c)areas listed above. Failure to provide this information may result in eliminating your application from further consideration.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Nurse Manager directs and oversees the operation of health care programs at adult correctional facilities. Responsibilities also include direct supervision of professional, technical, and clerical staff who are responsible for providing health care to inmates in an ambulatory clinic, laboratory, and x-ray setting. The type of care provided is both acute and chronic, including communicable diseases and emergencies. Major duties:
- ensures that the system for delivery of health care services is in accordance with the Department's rules, policies, and procedures and is comparable in quality to health care services available in the community;
- plans, assigns, and reviews work of assigned staff; adjusts work assignments and schedules to maintain adequate staffing levels and maximum utilization of resources at a 24-hour, 7-day per week facility; evaluates employee performance and prepares performance appraisals; assesses training needs of staff and arranges for or provides appropriate instruction; reviews applicants' credentials, participates in the interview process, and hires or effectively recommends hiring of staff; resolves personnel problems, complaints, and formal grievances; disciplines and rewards employees; counsels employees in work related activities;
- assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of a quality assurance plan for health service care; evaluates and documents the quality of health service delivery, including making rounds, observing patient care and treatment, and examining patient records on a regular schedule; assists with corrective action decisions; and prepares written statistical reports which convey or quantify the status, volume, and quality of services provided by the Health Services Program;
evaluates and determines the need for necessary equipment, supplies, and material; establishes repair and replacement schedules for equipment;
- establishes and maintains a system for administration of medication according to physician orders, which is timely and conforms to applicable law, administrative rules, and security requirements;
- ensures that medical records for all inmates are properly maintained; maintains system for regular audit of medical records to ensure completeness of documentation; ensures medical records are transferred with an inmate when he/she leaves the facility; and
- develops, implements, and maintains Health Services procedures; maintains an active role in team management functions.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- will be expected to share the mission, vision, and core values of the department;
- requires being a role-model of pro-social behavior and having an attitude that conveys dignity and respect in the treatment of others;
- must be able to acknowledge that everyone is capable of positive change;
- requires contact with inmates in a prison setting who may become violent;
- is exposed to chemicals, radiation, communicable diseases, or other hazards inherent in a health care and correctional setting;
- requires walking or standing for long periods.
- requires climbing and descending stairs with/without medical equipment;
- may require occasional exertion resulting from patient care;
- may require response to man down call;
- may require lifting/carrying of up to 30 lbs.;
- may require kneeling or stooping;
- may be assigned to any facility; and
- may require occasional local or in-state travel for training or meetings.
