National Correctional Officers and Employees Week takes place around the nation May 1-7.
DOC employees perform a valuable and often unrecognized service to the citizens of Oregon. No matter what their individual responsibility – correctional officer, probation officer, counselor, maintenance worker, education provider, medical or mental health professional, support staff, contractor, information specialist, manager, administrator or otherwise – they play an important role in Oregon’s public safety system.
In her proclamation of NCEW, Governor Brown commended adult and juvenile correctional workers for "holding offenders accountable for their actions and reducing the risk of future criminal behavior and future victimization."
DOC employees 4,500 staff members at 14 institutions, two community corrections offices, and several centralized support facilities throughout the state.
