GENERAL INFORMATION
The Oregon Department of Justice is recruiting for the position of Accounting Technician 2 in the Division of Child Support. There is one current full-time vacancy located in Salem, Oregon.  This recruitment will be used to establish a list of qualified applicants to fill the current vacancy.

 

The Division of Child Support is dedicated to establishing paternity and child support orders, and enforcing child support obligations in cases involving families who are receiving or have received public assistance, and in certain non-assistance cases. These activities have the benefit of helping children in need, encouraging family self-sufficiency, returning money to the public treasury and reducing the state’s costs in providing public assistance. It is the mission of the Division to enhance the well-being of children by providing child support services to families. The goals of the Division are:

 

1. To increase support to children.

2. To provide consistently high quality customer service.

3. To improve overall program performance.

4. To develop and strengthen collaborative partnerships.

5. To develop the program and staff to effectively meet the needs of children.

TO QUALIFY

Your PD100 application form will be reviewed to verify that you meet the minimum qualifications stated in this section.  To receive credit, your application form must clearly show that you have:

 

• two years of technical support accounting experience. One year of the experience must include the calculation, recording, and maintenance of routine accounting information; OR

 

• at least 36 quarter (24 semester) credit hours from an accredited college, university, or vocational-technical school that includes 9 quarter (6 semester) hours in accounting.

 

Training or experience must include operating a ten-key calculator by touch and using a computer to enter, update, or retrieve information.

 

To receive credit for required courses, submit a photocopy of transcripts.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary purpose of this position is to perform various accounting, journaling and reconciliation functions on behalf of the Child Support Program. This position is required to ensure accuracy and quality of child support accounts and perform centralized tasks as part of quality control for varied financial functions of the Oregon Child Support Program. Major duties include:

  • Manually distribute child support payment corrections to appropriate accounts by researching case specific information, reports and applying laws, rules and agency policies and procedures. 
  • Receive and respond to general inquires about the current status of child support cases.  Provide basic information regarding the Oregon child support program and related programs.  Refer specific inquiries to case managers or Branch Managers for customer contact.
  • Compare and validate data on computerized child support records with other documents, referrals or computerized case records and add, delete, or update information to maintain current and complete child support case records.
  • Cross train and provide coverage as assigned in unit.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Open office environment with noise from ringing telephones, phone conversations, walk-in traffic, printers and other office equipment. Must be able to speak clearly, answer questions, elicit information, and take appropriate action.  Operate computer keyboard with repetitive and constant finger and wrist movements for long periods of time.  Must be able to read and interpret various computer program screens for long periods of time.  Must be able to work on many detailed tasks at once and to cope with many interruptions.
