Wetland Land Use Notification

The wetlands program implements a local-state coordination mechanism called Wetland Land Use Notification. Cities and counties are required to check their Local Wetlands Inventory (LWI) map or the National Wetlands Inventory (NWI) map and notify the Department of applications for activities that might impact a mapped wetland.

The Department reviews the information and additional maps, and within 30 days notifies the local government, the applicant, and/or the landowner if a state removal-fill permit may be required.
