The Fusion Workgroupis charged with the following:

Action Plan (from GAS 2005)

1. Identify what’s missing in the current fusion chart. Collect information from
other Community Colleges. In addition to collecting information about ECE
programs, identify who is offering the General Education requirements online.
2. Complete fusion chart. Fit classes from Community College ECE programs into
the fusion areas.
3. Bless fusion chart. Create language to explain acceptance of another CC’s classes.
4. Identify holes for virtual student. Where and when will “next” class be offered?
Identify challenges and solutions for virtual student overflow issues.
5. Identify how to consolidate into a degree if classes did not fit.

Task Identification (from GAS 2006)
1.  Add Klamath CC, Central Oregon, Treasure Valley, others?
2.  Add a column for the "Virtual Degree".
3.  Look at course alignment and content.
4.  Examine course numbering for consistency ands see how this could be addressed.
5.  Identify the goal, possibly in phases (Certificate, degree, other)
6.  Look at the CAS system in the Atlas Project which identifies course equivalency between community colleges and Oregon University System colleges. It is designed for use by individual students. Basic information is at:
http://www.leg.state.or.us/05orlaws/sess0600.dir/0636ses.pdf
http://www.ous.edu/workinggroups/EDP/work/ATLAS%20CB.pdf
Several of the universities also have links though their websites.
7.  Discuss and propose language expansion of classes: Spanish, Russian, Vietnamese

Fusion History:
2003-04:  Representatives from CC with ECE programs put their classes onto a chart organized into 8 different fusion areas:  Development, Observation, Guidance, Child Health, Curriculum, Professionalism, Child in Context, & Practicum.  For it was almost impossible, because of the different ways that programs were developed and structured, to successfully compare and accept transfers based upon a class by class evaluation that truly benefited the student.

11/05:  The chart was updated and classes offered by “distance” were noted.

12/05-1/06:  The chart will be expanded to include ECE classes offered by “contract” CC, and notations will be made as to the rotations of classes.  The information will be reorganized by NAEYC standards  in preparation for the Fusion Workgroup discussion in January.
