Unemployment
claims in Oregon have slowly declined throughout the year. Initial
claims for benefits have fallen 11% over the year, and the total number
of weeks claimed are down 17 %. In addition the number of individuals
exhausting their regular 26-week claim is down 25%, and the total number
of individuals receiving benefits is down 32%.
The Federal
unemployment extension program, Emergency Unemployment Compensation
(EUC), is scheduled to end December 31. The last week for which
benefits will be paid is the week ending December 29, 2012. The Oregon
Employment Department estimates around 25,000 individuals will be
affected by the ending of the EUC program.

WorkSource
Oregon provides tools and assistance to job seekers. As of December
14, 2012, WorkSource Oregon lists 8,170 job listings representing 13.131
job openings in its iMatchSkills system.
Each week staff in
WorkSource Oregon centers contact job seekers in their area who are
about to exhaust all of their unemployment benefits. This is done to
actively engage the unemployed in their job search informing them of available services.
WorkSource
Oregon Centers statewide offer a variety of services for the job seeker
including assistance with resume writing, job search, skills training,
and more. In addition, job seekers can learn about job fairs and other
events online at www.WorkingInOregon.org.
