VIEW FULL PRESS RELEASE WITH GRAPHS Oregon’s Unemployment Insurance & iMatchSkills Update May 2011 Unemployment Insurance Regular Claims Activity The number of initial regular claims was 13% lower in May of 2011 than in May 2010, while the number of first payments was down 12% for the same period. The number of weeks claimed was down 18% year over year. The number of people exhausting benefits was 12% lower in May 2011 from May 2010, while the exhaustion rate went down from 55% to 50%. Average regular claim duration is 2 weeks lower than last year in May; from 19.9 weeks to 17.6 weeks. The total number of individuals receiving unemployment is at its lowest since the week ending December 27, 2008. Extended Benefits The number of people claiming Emergency Unemployment Compensation and Extended Benefits has been steadily declining The OEB program was funded for 30 million dollars and ended after only 4 weeks of benefits were paid out due to the volume of claims. This program added over 20,000 to the count of UI recipients in May.

iMatchSkills As of Monday, May 16, 2011, there were 6,991 listings in iMatchSkills, which represents 11,858 openings. WorkSource Oregon has been actively assisting employers with several large-scale hiring events over the past month. In Wilsonville, the Fred Meyer Corporation worked with WorkSource Portland Metro-Tualatin for staffing their new store. More than 1,200 individuals applied for the 200 positions. In Springfield, Cabela’s opened its first location in Oregon. WorkSource Lane assisted with the interviewing and screening of 1,200 applicants that resulted in 182 hires for the store.
