Downtown Portland WorkSource Oregon Employment Department Office Closing

WorkSource Oregon Employment Dept. Downtown Location
Declining resources and high costs prompt closure

The downtown Portland office of the WorkSource Oregon Employment Department has been serving the area for the past 55 years. The office in its present location will close on September 29th.

Though the office is closing, the tradition of service to area employers and job seekers will continue at other WorkSource Oregon Centers located throughout the metro area, according to WorkSource Oregon officials.

Why is the downtown location closing? According to the department, it comes down to being good stewards of the resources businesses have dedicated to running the state’s public labor exchange program. These funds, funneled through the federal budget, have been declining, while costs remain high. The downtown office became very expensive to maintain, especially when the administration of unemployment insurance moved to a Metro Unemployment Insurance Center.

The closure will allow the department to maintain a staff of Account Representatives and Businesses & Employment Representatives in the remaining offices to serve business recruitment needs and assist job seekers with their career goals.

The department encourages businesses and job seekers to use its award-winning online matching tool, iMatchSkills, to find qualified candidates and job opportunities.
