Historically, January is the busiest month for unemployment insurance claims. Last year at this time, telephone wait times at the unemployment insurance centers hovered around 40 or more minutes. Due to improvements in the phone system and additional staff, wait times have consistently been around 10 minutes. Also, Oregonians may go online to file their initial claim for unemployment benefits, as well as their weekly claim. Currently, just over 56 percent of initial claims are filed online.
