Grande Foods put on a grande opening

Grande Foods opened Oregon's newest and largest Hispanic market with a fiesta at their newly-renovated Cornelius location. The grande event featured the Mariachi band Gallos de America, a Ballet Folklorico dancing performance, an outdoor barbecue, prizes, the mayor of Cornelius, and a ribbon cutting by Centro Cultural Executive Director Sabino Sardineta.

The new specialty market now employs over 80, with recruiting assistance provided by the Hillsboro WorkSource Oregon Employment Department and community partners in order to open on time.

"Great source! Great source of information - great way to get the word out to the community," explains Fernando Salina, Deli Manager. "They all worked really close and kept in contact by telephone and emails - they set it up for me. It was like a Ronco machine - just set it and forget it."

Fernando also appreciated how WorkSource Oregon staff closely screened for the customer service and bilingual skills he needed.

"I was able to utilize all their tools, hard work, and efforts. They screen everybody really well to fit your needs, and that's what they did for me here at Grande Foods."
Grande Foods is the first major grocery store in the state to stock an extensive and unusual selection of food items from North, Central, and South America. They feature specialty areas for gourmet items, cheeses, spices, fresh tortillas, Hispanic meat and fresh seafood, bakery, Latin American produce, and a 40-seat deli.

What would Fernando recommend to other businesses looking for recruiting solutions?
"I would say use them (WorkSource Oregon). Fantastic. Nothing but good things to say about the staff there."
