Goodwill Industries of the Columbian Willamette (GICW) has been helping people find work since 1927. The non-profit has multiple programs that connect people with barriers to community-based work. Last year alone, in all its job-related programs, more than 27,000 people in Northwest Oregon and Southwest Washington were served.

But when Goodwill was building a brand new store in Warrenton Oregon and needed to recruit all new staff to work at the store, they recognized they needed help from WorkSource.

The store was going to open at the start of the holiday season so they needed to find good quality candidates right away!  Their main recruitment tool had been local newspapers and they didn’t think they could find enough people using only that resource. Their store was mid-construction with no place to meet, interview or orient new hires.

They decided to list job openings with WorkSource and have staff there promote the recruitment and identify qualified candidates. WorkSource could collect and sort applications, coordinate and facilitate interviews, and provide office space for them throughout their recruitment process.

This employer saved time and money by using the WorkSource Oregon Employment Department resources for staffing and having their facility available for interviews, orientations and training.  They saved staff salary dollars by using WorkSource staff to collect and organize their application process, and coordinate and facilitate their interviews.

Goodwill hired over 40 people!

What would Goodwill management say to other businesses looking to recruit?

“This has been a great resource and it wouldn’t have gone as smoothly without the help of WorkSource Oregon Employment Department Staff!”
