WorkSource Oregon and iMatchSkills are "right on the money!"
Human Resources Administrator Marge Wilson

Doncasters Medical Technologies manufactures medical implants.  Many Baby Boomer's benefit from this technology when knee, hip, and joint replacements are needed.  Also, many senior citizens are able to live longer and fuller lives because of these devices.

While Doncaster’s corporate office is in England, and its customer base is anywhere in the United States, the company ships from its plant in Oregon City.   The Oregon City plant currently employees 85.  They hire some entry-level positions, such as metal finisher, but the bulk of their positions require industry-specific skills. The company provides cross training to their workers so they can gain additional skills and broaden their horizons.  This encourages the company to promote from within and that philosophy has translated into employee loyalty.  In fact, employees commute from all over the Portland Metro area, rural Clackamas County and Salem for the opportunity to work there.

Marge Wilson, Human Resource Administrator, is a perfect example of this strategy.  17 years ago Marge started as a receptionist and secretary.  She worked in that role for 10 years.  During that time, she branched out to perform some of the human resources functions to assist that department.  Doncasters sent her to school for some human resources training.  Soon, she was promoted to a full time Human Resource Administrator and has been in that position for the past 7 years.

Marge has also learned to use iMatchSkills to post and manage her job openings.  She says it is user friendly and allows her to match to a qualified pool of candidates for her entry level positions, and some skilled positions.

“You are right on the money sending people out to apply,” says Marge.

Filling specific jobs that need a higher level of experience often presents some challenges, she explains.

“I like to have a working relationship with one individual who knows me, knows what the company needs are, responds to my requests, and gets it done.  Ellen is my contact at the One Stop and I can count on her.”

Marge encourages businesses to utilize their pre-paid services through WorkSource Oregon.   “It is an effective no-cost advertising tool for locating employees.”
