Zeppo Italian Restaurant Cooks up a Great Match
Candidate Becomes Recruiter
Doug Lee - Owner Zeppo Restaurant
Doug Lee - Owner Zeppo Restaurant

On  December 10th, 2003, just after Zeppo Italian restaurant in Lake Oswego Village opened,  Stephanie Hudson from WorkSource Oregon, stopped in and introduced herself to Doug Lee, the owner.  He learned about the valuable services available to him through this statewide network of public and private workforce partners.

Doug was in need of a Sous Chef.  The Sous Chef is second in command of the kitchen (Sous is French for “under”). His position was listed on iMatchSkills, Oregon’s new state-of-the-art job matching internet application.  The position required someone with previous experience and full knowledge of Sous Chef cooking.

Through a targeted phone match the next day, several qualified applicants were referred including Jerome Valenty.  A week later, Doug hired Jerome and was very pleased with the services of WorkSource Oregon.   Since then, Doug has listed various positions in iMatchSkills with good success.

Fast forward to March of 2006.  Stephanie now receives a call from Jerome at Zeppo.  Jerome reminds Stephanie that he was the person hired over 2 years ago for the Sous Chef position. Jerome is now Head Chef with a lot more responsibility.  In fact, he will be in charge of hiring a pantry/line cook employee.  Jerome then said:

"Stephanie, when you called me that day in December of 2003 and talked to me about the opening at Zeppo that was the greatest thing that could have happened to me then.  My life was not where I wanted it to be. Mostly, I needed a good job. I can't thank you enough and I hope we can find a great employee for this current opening."  And they did!

Thanks to iMatchSkills, Zeppo Italian Restaurant runs better than ever. Now whenever Doug Lee or Jerome need qualified candidates they know where to turn.

Doug says:

“Its one stop shopping. It’s been good for us. I haven’t been putting any ads in the paper. We either list a job through your program or word of mouth. We don’t have a lot of turnover but when we do our first option is to call Stephanie.”

For Jerome, he has a good job and has even learned hiring skills from his association with WorkSource Oregon and iMatchSkills.

“WorkSource Oregon is a good 98% of what I’m looking for. The people that are really looking for jobs are coming from WorkSource Oregon. It’s a great tool for people to learn how to hire people. It’s an outstanding program and I encourage anyone to give it a try. It pays off and saves you money in the long run.   If you’re a small company and can’t afford all the ads in the papers, the first place I’d go to would be WorkSource Oregon and iMatchSkills.”
