Receive UI Benefits While in Job Training
About the TUI program:
  • TUI is intended for career and technical training of eligible dislocated workers.  The training you attend must be related to an occupation or skills which offer reasonable employment opportunities.  If approved, the Training Programs Unit waives the requirement of actively seeking work while you attend training. TUI covers you only as long as you have unemployment benefits remaining and not necessarily to the very end of your training.
  • To qualify for TUI, the Employment Department or one of its partners must certify you as an eligible dislocated worker.  In addition, the training you attend must be full time and your program must not be for a Bachelor’s or higher educational degree.  In a semester/term college environment full time is generally considered 12 credit hours; in the summer term, it might be 9 credit hours.  If the classes you are taking are not on the credit system, full time is generally considered 20 classroom hours per week.
  • The TUI program has an extension available called Supplemental Unemployment for Dislocated workers (SUD). This extension is potentially available for up to 26 weeks while you are in approved training through the TUI program.
  • The TUI program does not pay for your training.  Partners of the Employment Department, located at our WorkSource Oregon Centers, can sometimes assist you with funding for training. Download an application and instructions here
