The Oregon Employment Department’s (OED) mission is to Support Business and Promote Employment. This is accomplished in four ways:  By supporting economic stability for Oregonians and communities during times of unemployment through payment of unemployment benefits; Serving businesses by recruiting and referring the best qualified applicants to jobs and providing resources to diverse job seekers in support of their employment needs; Developing and distributing quality workforce and economic information to promote informed decision making; and providing access to child care that is safe, high quality, and affordable. 
 
The Tax Section, part of OED, mission is to promote voluntary compliance by employers to ensure a low cost, equitable tax system that allows accurate and prompt payment of benefits to unemployed workers.  The Tax mission focuses on increasing employer education to encourage voluntary compliance, optimizing necessary enforcement and maintaining a quality accounting system.
 
We have one (1) limited duration opportunity, which is expected to end on or before June 30, 2011. This position is represented by the Services Employee International Union (SEIU).

As a Compliance Specialist 2 for the Oregon Employment Department you will ensure compliance with Federal and State Unemployment Insurance Tax Law.

  • Four years experience doing administrative research that included compiling and evaluating facts to recommend management action, or decide compliance with program guidelines and regulations. Two of the four years must be above the technical support level. OR
  • A Bachelor's Degree in any discipline with at least 24 credit hours in accounting and one year experience examining or auditing financial records.  Experience must include compiling and evaluating facts to decide compliance with established guidelines and regulations.
 
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
 
This position requires successfully passing a criminal record(s) check. The circumstances of any criminal activity will be reviewed to determine whether an applicant is accepted for employment.
 
The successful candidate will have a valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record. Note: Prior to an offer of employment OED may request that you provide an official driving record.
 
During the current biennium ending June 30, 2011, Employment Department employees are required to take mandatory unpaid time off (furlough days). A furlough is a temporary excused unpaid absence from work. Upon your arrival, your manager will be meeting with you to determine the number of hours or days required to be furloughed.

WORKING CONDITIONS
 
Daily work in a variety of settings, frequently with undesirable conditions. Open office environment in the tax office. Daily automobile travel required in all weather and traffic conditions. Occasional irregular hours may be required during periods of heavy workload or training. Frequent work with hostile and uncooperative persons. Work independently with remote supervision.
