(Employment Services Supervisor)

The Oregon Employment Department’s (OED) mission is to Support Business and Promote Employment. This is accomplished in four ways:  By supporting economic stability for Oregonians and communities during times of unemployment through payment of unemployment benefits; Serving businesses by recruiting and referring the best qualified applicants to jobs and providing resources to diverse job seekers in support of their employment needs; Developing and distributing quality workforce and economic information to promote informed decision making; and providing access to child care that is safe, high quality, and affordable. 
 
The Employment Department is recruiting for Principal Executive Manager B , Employment Services Supervisor, located in McMinnville. This is a Management Service position that exercises supervisory authority over assigned staff.  This recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies.
 
As part of OED, The Business and Employment Services (B&ES) Division provides a public labor exchange function within Oregon’s One-Stop workforce services environment to connect employers with Oregon’s job seekers. By quickly filling job openings with the best-qualified candidates, there is improved productivity and increased stability for the employer.  By matching qualified workers quickly with available job openings, there is a shorter period of unemployment or under-employment for individual workers. This system represents the largest pool of job openings and job seekers available in Oregon.
 
We have one (1) permanent full-time opportunity located in McMinnville in our WorkSource Oregon Office; this is a Management Service position that exercises supervisory authority over assigned staff.

INTERESTED? Here’s The Minimum You Need: 
  • Five years of experience in lead work, supervision, staff-technical, or professional-level work related to Workforce development and/or Business & Employment services.
 
This experience must have included at least one year of supervision and management of a program, section, or unit which included one or more of the following areas: a) development of program rules and policies, b) development of long- and short-range goals and plans, c) program evaluation, or d) budget preparation.
 
A Bachelor's degree or equivalent course work (144 quarter or 96 semester hours) in a field related to management such as Business or Public Administration, or a field directly related to the employing agency, may be substituted for up to three years of the required experience but will not substitute for the one year of specialized experience.

During the current biennium ending June 30, 2011, Employment Department employees are required to take mandatory unpaid time off (furlough days). A furlough is a temporary excused unpaid absence from work. Upon your arrival, your manager will be meeting with you to determine the number of hours or days required to be furloughed.

WORKING CONDITIONS
 
This position is located in an Office environment with the following conditions:  Completion and management of priorities in a high stress environment, input and retrieval of information from the computer system, communication by telephone and in person. Irregular hours and travel, including night and/or weekend work may be required.
