Bringing the Arts to Everyone -- Arts for All
The Arts for All program, now it its third year, provides access to performances to low-income citizens by offering $5 tickets to those with Oregon Trail Cards. More than 30 arts and culture organizations participate in the program, offering live theater and music to those who would otherwise not be able to access these performances.
For Oregonians such as Brian*, living with mental illness and physical disabilities on a limited income, the Arts for All program has re-opened the possibilities for him to enjoy live music. While Brian and his caretaker were visiting an Oregon Department of Human Services office one day, he picked up an Arts for All flyer. The caretaker reported to the staff at Portland Youth Philharmonic that Brian has always held a deep appreciation for music, and that it was often the only reason he would leave his home.
One in five households in the state have an Oregon Trail card that‘s part of the federal SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) plan. Arts for All helps open access to arts and culture events by making them affordable for these citizens. Funding partners for Arts for All include Work for Art, the Regional Arts & Culture Council, the City of Portland and All Classical 89.9 FM.
Arts for All is a funded project of Work for Art.
