LICENSEE CONTINUED EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Summary of CEH Requirements

Rule Language

The continuing education requirement for an active landscape construction professional (LCP) license renewal is now in effect with the first audit of this requirement occurring in 2010.  This is what you need to know when you renew:

If your LCP license number is an even number, you ARE subject to audit in 2010 and again in 2012, etc.  In 2010 you must have acquired on or before your license renewal date, 10 hours of continued education (CEH) with a minimum of 2 CEH in business, 4 CEH in technical and the remaining 4 CEH can be business, technical or other.

If your LCP license number is an odd number, your ARE  NOT subject to audit in 2010.  You will be subject to audit in 2011 and again in 2013, etc.  In 2011you must have acquired on or before your license renewal date, 20 hours of continued education (CEH) with a minimum of 4 CEH in business, 8 CEH in technical and the remaining 8 CEH can be business, technical or other.

CONTINUING EDUCATION COURSES
Check the LCB website and see what courses have been approved for CEH.  Note:  all courses at accredited colleges are automatically preapproved though not listed and any Continued Education Credits you are requried to obtain for other licenses/certifications such as pesticide license, Irrigation Auditor or CLT/CLP certifications are accepted as long as those credit hours are verifiable).  Many of the courses are ongoing, so contact the provider to see when the next scheduled course will be held.

If the course IS approved, then the course provider will issue you a certificate that states you attended and are granted a certain number of CEH.  DO NOT send the certificate into the Board office unless you are audited (see below).

If you decide to attend a course that is NOT PREAPPROVED then you have 30 days after attending the course to submit the course approval form found on the website along with the course outline and documentation that verifies you actually attended the course.  You will be notified whether or not it is approved.

Remember that volunteering on boards and commissions related to the landscape industry, volunteering for landscape related community projects and presenting courses also qualify for CEH if these events are preapproved through the board.

HOW DOES THE RENEWAL AND AUDIT WORK?
On or before your renewal date for your LCP license the board will send out your renewal form.  You will lindicate on the form whether you have met the CEH requirements or not.  Depending on your response, your license may be renewed.  If you are selected to be part of the audit for the year, then you will receive written notification that you will need to submit verification of meeting the CEH requirement.  AT THAT TIME submit certificates and other documentation that verifies your compliance with the CEH requirement.  DO NOT send in any documentation until you are asked to do so.  The board does not hold or save any documentation on your behalf.

If you do not meet the CEH requirement, you will be allowed 21 days the correct this deficiency.  If you are still deficient, you will be assessed a $200 civil penalty and your license will be suspended until you are in compliance.
