Preliminary FEMA Flood Maps
Washington and Clatsop Counties
Washington and Clatsop Counties
Preliminary flood maps were released in November of 2007 for Washington and Clatsop counties. Public meetings to introduce the maps were held for:
  • Washington County on November 6; and
  • Clatsop County on November 8.
Communities have the opportunity to submit appeals or protests during a statutory 90-day comment period. The appeal period officially begins on the date when FEMA publishes the second legal notice of the proposed Base Flood Elevation (BFE) in the local newspaper.

An "appeal" is a challenge to a proposed change in the BFE. Challenges to issues other than the BFE, such as floodplain boundaries, road names, and corporate limits, can also be submitted during this period but are considered "protests." Supporting documentation must be submitted along with all technical appeals or protests.
