Public Library Statistics

Oregon Public Library Statistics

Since 1914, the State Library of Oregon has collected and published data on collections, circulation, staffing, facilities, technology, and other statistics from all legally established public libraries in Oregon. The reporting period for public library statistics aligns with the state fiscal year, from July 1 through June 30 each year.

Reporting Your Library's Statistics

The State Library of Oregon opens the online reporting tool with instructions in July or early August for libraries to report on the recently closed fiscal year. The deadline to submit library statistics is October 31.

Help is always available! Contact us with questions or to schedule a training session. For complete instructions and FAQs for completing the survey, please visit and bookmark our online guide.

Oregon Public Library Datasets and Tools

Data from the last several years is also made available in the Excel spreadsheets below. Both sources are updated with data from the most recently completed fiscal year by February 1 each year:

*Typical service measures for most public libraries were heavily disrupted during COVID-19 pandemic-related closures, and during other periods of reduced library access and usage. Please note that data from these periods may not be fully representative of typical public library services in Oregon.

Oregon Public Library Trends Tool

Our new Oregon Public Library Trends Tool displays most key data elements, along with longitudinal trends, for each library from the Oregon Public Library Statistical Report (FY2010 – present).

Oregon Public Library Snapshot

Explore key data from the Oregon Public Library Statistical Report (from FY2010 – present) using the Oregon Public Library Snapshot. This dashboard is meant to provide communities with an easy, at-a-glance, printable visualization of some key data points for their library.
