LPC EXAMINATION
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

In order to be reviewed for possible entrance to an upcoming exam, applicants must have provided all necessary information and forms for the Board to review. Please keep in mind that it may take several months to review an application once it has been received.

For Oregon LPC, the Board requires passage of an examination consisting of two parts: a competency exam (NBCC National Counselor Exam, Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor exam, Certified Rehabilitation Counselor exam, and other exams approved by the Board) and an Oregon law and rules section.  The documentation for the competency exam must show that it was passed within 10 years of application for Oregon licensure.

Once the degree information has been approved, an applicant is eligible to sit for the next available exam. The Board uses the National Counselor Examination.  The National Board of Certified Counselors has a NCE Candidate Handbook that has valuable information regarding the exam at: www.nbcc.org/stateboardmap.

CONTACT THE BOARD IF YOU WISH TO SIT FOR AN EXAM.  The Board does not automatically send applicants a registration form.  It is the applicant's responsibility to contact the Board to see if they are eligible to sit for the exam and obtain the necessary form.  The registration form should be completed with an original ink signature and sent by U.S. postal mail to NBCC along with the examination fee of $185.  (Fees are subject to change.)

REGISTRATION DEADLINES

Candidates will need to allow approximately 4 weeks processing time once their payment and materials are received by the NBCC Assessment Dept.  Candidates can submit registration materials at any time after being approved by the Board, but be aware that space is limited.  The fees are good for 6 months.

TESTING SCHEDULE

Testing is offered one week of each month, Monday thru Friday at 9:00am and 1:30pm.  Certain sites offer Saturday testing.  Candidates will be provided a phone number to contact for particular locations and dates.  Candidates are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.  There are four testing locations in Oregon, however, you are able to test at any of the over 150 assessment centers across the U.S.  The four sites in Oregon are Bend, Eugene, Medford, and Portland.
