Alcohol & Drug Abuse

Alcohol, tobacco and other drug abuse can cause serious repercussions in the quality of life in Oregon´s families. Children whose parents abuse drugs or alcohol are almost three times more likely to be abused and four times more likely to be neglected than other children. 1 Drug abuse by youth negatively affects well-being, relationships and academic performance, is involved in the majority of sexual activities leading to teen pregnancies, forty percent of accidents, thirty percent of teen homicides and most delinquent offenses. 2 Therefore, early prevention and intervention efforts are essential as are intensive and comprehensive treatment options.
