Child Care and Education Programs- Infant / Toddler Care
GENERAL COMMENTS:

IScientists have found that brain development is more rapid from birth to 3 years of age than during any other period of life. At birth, a baby´s brain has 50 trillion connections among neurons. At one year of age these connections have grown to 1000 trillion. The brain continues to rapidly create pathways for thinking, speech, and emotions in direct response to the senses the infant sees, hears, feels, smells, and tastes. In light of this research, good care, including both physical care and emotional nurturing, is crucial for very young children.

Pediatricians, psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and early care and education professionals stress the importance for a very young child to be able to rely on continuing relationships with a few caring adults, who include parents, other family members and child care providers. 1
