| Official sampling |
|
Reliable independent third-party seed sampling for the domestic and international markets.
Commodity Inspection Division provides official seed sampling to: - meet the import requirements, such as phytosanitary certificates of countries importing Oregon seed.
- provide unbiased, representative, samples for testing seed quality and condition.
- provide authorized seed samples for endophyte tags, sod quality tags, and International Seed Testing Association (ISTA) orange tags.
The official sample can be delivered to the ODA laboratory, the OSU laboratory, certain private seed laboratories, or returned to the customer.

| Requesting sampling service |

Submitting sampling information to request sampling.
To request sampling ODA will need the following information: - Company name for billing purposes.
- Seed location (e.g. warehouse, shipping facility, etc.).
- Lot identification.
- Total number of pounds/kilograms.
- Number of containers.
- Sample delivery location.
- Country or state of seed origin.
- Tests being requested or statement of "official sample."
To request sampling
To request sampling, download the sample request form (Word document), fill it out, and email to cid-expert@oda.state.or.us or fax to the Commodity Inspection Division at (503) 986-4737. In the Willamette Valley, samples are pulled within one work-day of the request.

| Preparing the seed lot for sampling |

Lot requirements
Seed lots must be: - identified with lot numbers.
- no more than eight feet high (two high) and readily available for sampling without posing risks to the sampler.
Sampling tips
- Notify the warehouse and make sure seed is available and accessible before requesting sampling services.
- Fax sample requests before 9am for same day service in the Willamette Valley.
- Have someone at the warehouse available to assist the sampler.
- Double check lot numbers, weights, and container counts before requesting sampling.
A minimum charge will be assessed if a sampler is unable to sample due to a lot not being accessible or prepared for sampling.
