About the agriculture category exams
Study materials and outlines are presented below for the five agriculture category exams. These are category exams for the Commercial Pesticide Applicator License or the Public Pesticide Applicator License. Exams covered in this section will not count towards Private Pesticide Applicator certification, which is required for restricted-use pesticide use in agricultural production on land owned or rented by the applicator.

Consultant
This is a stand-alone exam. Upon successful completion, certification for the Pesticide Consultant License is granted. This license is required of individuals who provide technical advice to those who use restricted-use pesticides. Typically individuals such as county extension agents, chemical company technical and sales representatives, food processor field representatives and representatives of agricultural supply outlets may need to hold this license. Directly supervised trainee
This is a stand-alone exam. Upon successful completion, the individual may apply for either the Public Directly Supervised Trainee License or the Commercial Directly supervised Trainee License. This license is required of individuals who are employed by a Commercial Pesticide Operator or public agency and who apply pesticides under the direct supervision of a properly licensed Commercial or Public Pesticide Applicator (supervising applicator). This license must also be held by individuals who apply restricted-use pesticides to non-agricultural property under the supervision of a properly licensed individual who controls the property (i.e., privately owned golf courses, industrial properties, etc.). The categories held by the trainee are limited to those held by the supervising applicator, and must correspond to the application work being conducted.
