Site of attack
Galls are formed on teh leaves, petioles, and stem tips.
 
Mode of attack
The mites cause deformities in the leaves and developing buds, which interferes with flowering and seed production.
 
Destructive stage
Larval-external and adult.

This agent is in the process of being established in Oregon. Consult with ODA for availability for your area.
 
History in Oregon
The gall mite Aceria malherbae was released in 1999 in Polk County, at the Baskett Slough National Wildlife Refuge. The mite was recovered in Polk County in small numbers. Release sites should be mowed every 2-3 weeks to stimulate attack by the mite on the tender new leaves and buds.
