EVENT: The Invasive Plant Policy Review and Regulatory Improvement Project
The Invasive Plant Policy Review and Regulatory Improvement Project was approved by the Portland Planning Commission on November 10, 2009. The next step in the process for the project is a hearing before the Portland City Council. The hearing will be held on Feb. 3rd at 9:30 am. An official public notice will be sent to those in the project databases. Also, a project report is being prepared for City Council. Who: West Multnomah Soil & Water Conservation District, Skyline Ridge Neighbors What: Free Workshop on Invasive Weeds Where: Skyline Grange, 11275 NW Skyline Blvd. When: 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., Saturday, February 6, 2010 Contact: Carolyn Myers Lindberg, 503/238-4775, ext. 101 Join West Multnomah Soil & Water Conservation staff and Skyline Ridge Neighbors for a FREE workshop on invasive weeds in the West Hills. You’ll learn how to identify and control some of the worst invasive plants in your area. All interested landowners are invited to attend Saturday, February 6, at the Skyline Grange, 10 a.m.–12:00 p.m. Register by clicking “Events” at www.wmswcd.org. A short slideshow with the most menacing invasive weeds will be followed by a hands-on demonstration of how to use a variety of tools to combat these formidable foes! The demonstration will include lessons on how to use a weed wrench, knotweed injection gun and how to create a tree-ivy lifesaver ring.
Invasive weeds to be included are:
- English ivy
- Clematis
- English hawthorne
- Holly
- Himalayan blackberry
- Knotweed
- Garlic mustard
What are invasive weeds? They are invasive, non-native plants introduced to an environment where they harm the local ecology by displacing native plants and wildlife, impede water quality and flow, increase soil erosion, decrease land value and alter ecosystems.
