Food safety and animal health programs and services

ODA provides services that help assure consumers that the food they eat is safe and provides services that detect, control, and eradicate livestock diseases. ODA licenses, inspects, and provides technical assistance to Oregon's food establishments (everything but restaurants, which are handled by Public Health) and offers specific oversight of food, dairy, and shellfish production. Through the State Veterinarian's Office, ODA also monitors infectious animal diseases, especially those transmissible to humans.

Natural resource programs and services

ODA provides services that help today's farmers and ranchers protect the state's natural resources for all Oregonians and future generations of agricultural producers. ODA programs supporting the department's natural resource mission include water quality, pesticides and fertilizers, confined animal feeding operations (CAFOs), plant pests and diseases, nursery and Christmas tree production, and plant conservation.

Market access and certification programs and services

ODA provides services that help producers, processors, and entrepreneurs move Oregon agricultural products into the marketplace, whether those products are sold locally, regionally, or internationally. ODA provides voluntary third-party inspection and certification programs increasingly demanded by buyers of Oregon products. ODA also helps sustain and expand markets for Oregon agriculture through a wide range of activities, from export development to farm direct marketing and farm to school efforts… and everything in-between.
