Pesticide Product Information

​​​​​Oregon law defines the following as pesticides

  • Defoliant: any substance or mixture of substances intended for causing the leaves or foliage to drop from a plant with or without causing abscission
  • Desiccant: any substance or mixture of substances intended for artificially accelerating the drying of plant tissue
  • Fungicide: any substance or mixture of substances intended for preventing, destroying, repelling, or mitigating any fungus
  • Herbicide: any substance or mixture of substances intended for preventing, destroying, repelling, or mitigating any weed
  • Insecticide: any substance or mixture of substances intended for preventing, destroying, repelling, or mitigating any insects which may be present in any environment
  • Nematicide: any substance or mixture of substances intended for preventing, destroying, repelling, or mitigating nematodes
  • Plant regulator: any substance or mixture of substances intended, through physiological action, to accelerate or retard the rate of growth
  • Any substance, or mixture of substances, intended to be used for defoliating plants or for preventing, destroying, repelling or mitigating all insects, fungi, weeds, rodents, predatory animals, or any other form of plant or animal life which is determined to be a pest

Federal law defines a pesticide as

  • Any substance or mixture of substances intended for preventing, destroying, repelling, or mitigating any pest
  • Any substance or mixture of substances intended for use as a plant growth regulator, defoliant, or desiccant
  • Any nitrogen stabilizer, except that the term "pesticide" shall not include any article that is a "new animal drug"

Federal law defines a pest as

  • Any insect, rodent, nematode, fungus, weed

  • Any other form of terrestrial or aquatic plant or animal life or virus, bacteria, or other micro-organism (except viruses, bacteria, or other micro-organisms on or in living man or other living animals) which the administrator declares to be a pest under section 25(c)(1)

Registration of Pesticide Products in Oregon

Every pesticide, including each formula or formulation, manufactured, compounded, delivered, distributed, sold, offered or exposed for sale in this state shall be registered each year with the State Department of Agriculture (ORS 634.016).​
