As with much of state government, the Department of Forestry has been challenged by current economic conditions. The Department of Forestry is reaching out to a broad group of interests to draw upon their creative energies to help craft solutions to budget shortfalls. The Board of Forestry, at its March 3, 2010 meeting, approved the recommendation to adress the following budget-related objectives:
A. Simplify the Department's budget;
B. Limit and create certainty around direct charges to working private lands that are used to support the budget;
C. Stabilize the Department's budget by ensuring a dependable public funding source;
D. Reconnect Oregon’s public with the values they expect or desire from Oregon forests; and
E. Retain stakeholder involvement that ensures agency performance sustains a high level of transparency, accountability, effectiveness, and efficiency.
The Coalition will confirm or amend the objectives, and will help develop legislative concepts to implement the recommendations.
